I need to submit my next time card before Thursday this week since the payroll office will be closed next week for the Thanksgiving break. I'll be doing a split shift today since my co-worker had an appointment during his regular shift. I'll work from 5-10 AM and 1-5 PM, with my co-worker covering the 10-1 part. I feel like I need a nap between shifts, and maybe after the second shift as well.

As I did last year, I will be having Thanksgiving dinner with members of a local singles group. Last week, I bought the ingredients I need for a corn dish.

The Cinco de Mayo party on Thursday was crowded but still fun. I don't know if the restaurant (Rancho Alegre) is normally this busy or if it was overwhelmed due to Cinco de Mayo, but service was slow. The place could have used at least a couple more staff members to handle the crowd. I had a plate of jalapeno poppers and a burrito, along with a margarita.

I've been cutting way back on eating fast food, but I stopped by Burger King on the way home from work tonight to get the Angriest Whopper. I put it in my refrigerator to have for lunch tomorrow. I tried to get it before, but the BK I visited had run out of the red buns baked with hot sauce, so I just got an Angry Whopper.

I'm glad the weather this weekend will be decent. It snowed last weekend and again on Tuesday. The roads were icy on Saturday evening and early Sunday morning. The snowplows and sand/salt trucks had begun making their rounds by 9 AM when my Sunday shift ended.

KRCC's annual Christmas party was on Sunday night at Adams Mountain Cafe. I arrived early, so I decided to get some groceries at Safeway and some edibles from Emerald Fields (across the street from the cafe) before the party. The party this year didn't have as many people. I stayed just over two hours for dinner and drinks, then went home to listen to Sarek's music stream and Doggy Radio.

The rest of this week will be a bit warmer, meaning I won't have to deal with icy streets.  I'll be going to a Drinking Liberally meeting Thursday night. This month's FoxTrot fur meet will be Saturday night in Denver at its new location, Hamburger Mary's.

91 days until Furry Fiesta, and
204 days until the singles cruise in Grenada!

My puppet family will increase by at least one this month. I found one of the old "blond" ferrets for sale on eBay, which should be shipped this weekend. I sent an Amazon.com Christmas "wish list" to my Dad, including a couple more Folkmanis puppets, a handheld blender and "Weird Al" Yankovic's new book.

I really want to get back into doing improv. The Bovine Metropolis Theater, where I took courses back in 2003-2004, had its annual pre-Thanksgiving dinner/party Wednesday night. The theater owners were the only attendees I knew, but I was able to converse with the others fairly well.

I'm looking at the Level 1 classes at both the Bovine and the Voodoo Comedy Playhouse. The Bovine's next Level 1 is on Tuesday nights from December to February, while Voodoo's next Level 1 is Sunday afternoons from January to March. I'd rather not constantly drive to Denver during the winter. Also, I'd miss the next-to-last class at Voodoo since it's on Furry Fiesta weekend. With a cruise and RMFC later in 2016, I'll likely wait until late-July or August to start taking regular classes. If I could find a Wednesday or Thursday night Level 1 starting in March or April, that would be excellent.

Thanksgiving dinner went well this year. Most of the roads were just wet at first, but they were a bit icy in Rockrimmon around 1 PM. It was a tad worse when I left around 3:30, but I made it home safely.

I need to go shopping for bread ingredients and appetizers today. The appetizers are for a pre-Thanksgiving party, and I wanted to make corn bread and banana bread for Thanksgiving dinner. While I'm out, I will also get my car's oil changed and pick up my Alprazolam refill.

For this year and next year, I'll be away from home during Halloween. The holiday is on a Saturday this year. I'll be getting home from KRCC around 8:20-8:30, long after most of the trick-or-treaters have gone home. Since next year is a leap year, Halloween will be on a Monday. I'll get home from my OA meeting around 7 PM, so I likely won't have any visitors then, either.

I volunteered to bring a dessert to a Halloween potluck at my Toastmasters meeting. I found a couple of recipes which sound excellent: pumpkin pie cheesecake, and a honey/peanut butter dip (I think I'll use the dip with apple slices instead of the apple pie balls in the recipe.)

I just discovered a "trick" a few minutes ago. Someone hacked my PayPal account earlier today and made several withdrawals. I changed my password and filed disputes with PayPal.

My timing for July 4th-centric foods was a bit off this year.  Since the 4th was on a Saturday, I had to work at KRCC and only brought a frozen meal to work.  The pictured bowl of rainbow rotini and gruyere cheese sauce was made and consumed on July 2-3.  The cheese sauce was from another recipe I tried (Philly cheese steak sandwiches, which were also good.)  After work on Sunday the 5th, I bought some hot dogs, breakfast items, sodas and a few other things.

I didn't get any trick-or-treaters this year.  I had a couple dozen Reese's cups in a bowl by the door just in case.

Apparently a trick was played on an audio server this week.  The Friday night show I listen to (Turn Up The Night) went silent about 90 minutes into the program.  According to the hosts in the chat room, there was a DDoS attack on the Icecast server the show uses.

The Howl-O-Ween party in Denver is Saturday night!

A co-worker told me one of the other stations where he works is planning to change formats. He said he'd let me know if the station will hire any new staff.

My Christmas presents this year:

Sweat pants
Elastic belt
DVD of "The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret" (season 1)
David Sedaris' new book "Let's Explore Diabetes With Owls"
Crock pot
iTunes card
Chocolate/walnut pretzels

I was much more relaxed this Christmas, mostly due to taking my Xanax beforehand and having an extra pill in my pocket just in case. My brother asked if I was still looking for weekday work. When I said yes, he thought I should become an AM talk show host. If I could actually talk for more than 30 seconds at a time without getting flustered, I would have tried that a long time ago. I would like to eventually get enough practice to do an online show. Maybe then I could shop my skills around to more stations. I've been listening to several different radio stations through iTunes to get an idea how I should sound.

I got my Christmas tree out this week, mainly because one half of my living room gets very dark even with the other lights on.

Speaking of lights, I will be getting a couple of LED bulbs to replace the burned-out ones by my front door and the hallway by the bedroom.

I just got word that Friday's Toastmasters meeting was canceled due to the snow. When I went to check the mail, the roads in my community were snow and slush-packed, but not icy.

I had RSVP'd for the furry Thanksgiving dinner in Denver earlier this month. I received word last week about another dinner in Fountain (closer to home.) I canceled the Denver RSVP and signed up for the local event instead. I'll still go to day-before-Thanksgiving party at the Bovine Metropolis, though.

My dad e-mailed me saying he wouldn't go grocery shopping this week due to Thanksgiving. I'm starting to run low on food, so I'll pick up a couple of family-size dinners, a couple of side dishes and a few smaller items Tuesday.

Days above 2,000 calories: 2 (2,140 and 2,170)

I read on Facebook that today was "Have A Party With Your Bear Day." Work and other errands have left me too tired, so I'll be doing my partying on Sunday afternoon/evening.

I bought a bottle of black cherry rum this afternoon. On the way home, I saw two gas stations at North Carefree and Powers selling regular unleaded for under $3 per gallon ($2.97 and $2.99.)

One thing I'll definitely request for a Christmas gift is a tall stepladder. Two of my ceiling lights are burned out, and my step stool isn't tall enough to reach them. I previously used my kitchen chair, but that swivels, making it difficult to stand on.

I was invited to two Thanksgiving events in Denver this year. The Bovine Metropolis improv theater is having a party the night before, then a group of friends will have Thanksgiving dinner.

I'll be having dinner with my family at my brother's house this afternoon. Last night, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to go since my anxiety and depression have been really severe this week. I get very uncomfortable around my brother's family, but I'd rather not be alone right now. EDIT: My anxiety flared up again around 1:30, so I didn't go to dinner.

I wish I could have my old life back. I was so much happier when I was working full-time at Metro Networks. I had just moved into my condo and was starting to move toward being truly independent when I was laid off.

I started a third route with my phone book delivery job. It's actually two small routes with a total of 49 addresses. I tried to deliver to the businesses Wednesday, but the first one I visited was closed and the gate entries to some of the others were locked. If they're still closed on Friday, I'll deliver to the residential addresses then try the businesses again on Monday.

I thought there was no chance I'd actually get an end table for Christmas. I walked into my parents' house and, lo and behold, a new end table with a bow and gift tag was next to the tree. Dad told me I would get a second one for my birthday. Now I can put my computer's printer on top of it to place it closer to my computer. I'll use the drawer for printer paper and/or stationery so it's in a central place.

I also got a new alarm clock, external speakers for my laptop, a pair of Sony earbuds, a Dirt Devil mini vacuum, the "American: The Bill Hicks Story" DVD and the usual stocking full of sweets.

I had to cut my Christmas celebration a bit short since I offered to fill in for the Sunday afternoon board operator at KRCC. One of my former co-workers from Business Talk Radio called to wish me a Merry Christmas.
jcollie719: (Xmas Vigoda)
At the request of my family, I came up with a few Christmas gift ideas:

-- Sony noise-cancelling headphones or earbuds
-- External speakers for my laptop
-- New alarm clock for bedroom
-- 1 or 2 end tables with drawers for living room
-- Digital watch

The only item I truly need is the alarm clock because some of the time-adjust buttons on my current clock are broken. I tried to limit my list to items that weren't too expensive. The most expensive item is the headphones; most of the listed ones on Nextag cost $50-70. If I do get 2 end tables, I could possibly use one for a bedroom nightstand since my old laundry basket and a bulletin board are currently being used for that purpose.

My Christmas tree is out and decorated. I didn't bother with it last year. I may put up my window lights in the next week or so.

I have at least 2 days of leftovers from Thanksgiving dinner. I made it through without any panic attacks.

91 days until Furry Fiesta (pending a new job, of course.) If the trip is too short-notice for my new boss when I am hired, I could always try for Furry Weekend Atlanta or something later.

Two or three times this month, I've spotted a thin, light brown flying insect in my kitchen. They usually stay behind the blinds in my kitchen window, but today one briefly landed on the opposite wall before flying back to the window. I had swatted one a few weeks ago, but I honestly don't know what type of insect/bug it is.

Boo At The Zoo was wonderful last night. Nicona (in suit) and SnowQueen (out of suit) were there along with Nevermint as Jager, Kotanu the cheetah and another suiter as Cash the border collie. A few other non-suited furries also joined us. I hope to buy a partial suit (new or used) after finding work since I sometimes feel a little out-of-place in my kigurumi. I don't think I've ever measured my head, but I think it might be a bit too big for some of the heads/partials I've seen listed on Furbuy.

I have a bag of 30 (well, 29 now) mini candy bars in case I do get trick-or-treaters this year. I went on Halloween cruises in 2007 and 2008, and I didn't get any visitors in 2009 or 2010.

Card?

I was supposed to receive a Christmas card from one of my online friends this year. I'm not sure if it got lost in the mail or may have been put in the wrong mailbox, which happens occasionally. (I get mail meant for my neighbors once in a while.) The worst-case scenario -- which I hope didn't happen -- was the letter somehow slipped inside one of the advertising fliers I get every week and I accidentally threw it out.

I'd like to send out cards next Christmas. I've got a ton of Christmas-themed return address labels courtesy of several charities seeking donations. I also found an online site that has cards with a drawing of a collie on the front. I can only hope I'll find a new job well before then.
