My state tax refund arrived in the mail today.

2017 GOALS
RMFC
Weight below 280
Second vacation (BLFC or DC singles reunion)

I accomplished the last goal last month with the DC reunion. In place of RMFC, I will attend another cruise reunion in Denver in just over a month.

I went to a New Year's Eve party last night. The party was hosted by a member of my singles group; about 60 people attended. I napped for a few hours between work and the party. I had hoped to stay past midnight. Unfortunately, I found myself starting to feel sleepy again around 11:15 (and wanting to get some rest before work) and headed home. I made sure to alternate between drinking alcohol and water so I wouldn't get drunk at the party or be hung over in the morning.

I'll go ahead and start this countdown: 222 days until Rocky Mountain Fur Con!

2016 RESOLUTIONS
1. Singles cruise (yes!)
2. Furry Fiesta and RMFC (yes!)
3. Get a fursuit (yes!)
4. Get (and keep) my weight below 300. (no.)
5. Stick to a schedule for certain duties (taking out the trash, checking the mail, etc.) or just stop putting things off until the last minute. (no.)

It felt very good to finally meet some goals that were financially impossible before. I finally have a collie fursuit, though I still need to arrange for its maker to make an adjustment or two so it fits properly.

This year, I began sessions with a new therapist. I hadn't seen a therapist since my former one retired in 2014. I had a few medical issues, including an infection which caused my lower lip to swell up. I finally asked a doctor about being tested for sleep apnea and now have an APAP machine to help me sleep better.

2017 GOALS
RMFC
Weight below 280
Second vacation (BLFC or DC singles reunion)

The second vacation goal might not be possible if the singles reunion is the same weekend as KRCC's spring membership drive.

2016 RESOLUTIONS
1. Singles cruise
2. Furry Fiesta and RMFC
3. Get a fursuit (currently in progress!)
4. Get (and keep) my weight below 300.
5. Stick to a schedule for certain duties (taking out the trash, checking the mail, etc.) or just stop putting things off until the last minute.

I've accomplished the first two resolutions this year. I will contact my fursuit's maker later today to get a progress update. My weight is still hovering in the same 310s range that it was last year. I've definitely failed at the fifth resolution.

Compared to 2015, I'm doing less "okay" financially, but not poor enough to resurrect the #brokeasscollie hashtag on Twitter. I will see a doctor in a couple of weeks about the results of my sleep test. I hope a CPAP or whatever else the doctor recommends will improve my sleep. That would help me feel more alert and less cranky during the day, which would also reduce my tendency to snack/overeat due to being angry or tired.

I hope to keep another goal alive for next year: attending Biggest Little Fur Con. I tried to book a hotel room online when the room block opened, but I couldn't find any available for the entire weekend. I'll see if anyone with a room is looking for roommates, or hopefully the room block will be expanded later on.

I recently thought of another New Year's resolution for 2016. I need to either stick to a schedule for certain duties (taking out the trash, checking the mail, etc.) or just stop putting things off until the last minute. Of course, I also shouldn't wait until 2016 to do this. I'll take the trash out before heading to my Toastmasters meeting today. My desire to do these things (or to just go outside) tends to decrease in the Winter.

I went to a Happy Hour meetup last night. This month's meetup was at Mackenzie's Chop House downtown. The food and drinks were good, but the sectioned and spread-out layout of the bar wasn't very good for encouraging a large group to socialize.

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS FOR 2015
1. Get my weight back below 280 lbs.
2. Make at least one Toastmasters speech
3. Attend Furry Fiesta and Rocky Mountain Fur Con
4. Find a second job, side business or franchise
5. Singles cruise or Furry Cruise

So far, I've only accomplished #3. My weight is continuing to seesaw between 305 and 315. I'm still brainstorming ideas for a Toastmasters speech since I have two months to do it.  A second job is still out of reach. I've booked a cruise for next July.

2016 RESOLUTIONS
1. Singles cruise
2. Furry Fiesta and RMFC
3. Get a fursuit (currently in progress!)
4. Get (and keep) my weight below 300.

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS FOR 2015

1. Get my weight back below 265 280 lbs. (currently at 286 315)
2. Make at least one Toastmasters speech
3. Attend Furry Fiesta and Rocky Mountain Fur Con
4. Find a second job, side business or franchise
5. Singles cruise or Furry Cruise

I know I can do the first three.  I plan to work harder to get the other two accomplished.

EDIT: I updated the weight loss goal with more-accurate measurements since getting my new scale.
jcollie719: (lunchiesdogangl)
The family Christmas dinner ended up not happening this year.  My brother and his family were too tired after breakfast, so they went home.  I had also made alternate dinner plans since Dad hadn't confirmed if dinner would happen.  Dad had made the traditional Christmas raviolis, so I had some tonight when I visited him.

Speaking of better late than never, I've been looking over past LJ posts at previous years' New Year's resolutions.  Some of the resolutions I couldn't keep then may be within reach in 2015!  I've regained some of the weight I lost in the past two years, weighing 286 lbs. tonight.  I'd like to get back below 265 pounds, my weight at the start of 2013.  I'd also like to give at least one Toastmasters speech this year.  I hope having less stress in my life will help with both of these goals.

I'm back to using my old laptop again.  A few days after I got my new laptop back from Geek Squad, it began crashing and restarting if I tried to run multiple programs at once (or sometimes just one program on Firefox.)  A representative at Dell's repair center said there's likely a problem with the motherboard.  I got a shipping box delivered to me today, and the laptop will be mailed off Saturday.

My 2014 New Year's resolutions:
1) Find full-time work or start my own business
2) Get health insurance √
3) Get weight below 250 lbs. as measured on my home scale
4) Attend Rocky Mountain Fur Con √

I have health insurance now, and Rocky Mountain Fur Con is just over a month away. I contacted and paid someone with room space available for Friday afternoon through Monday morning. I'll likely drive up on Thursday night for early registration, then drive back up on Friday after Toastmasters.

My weight went up since January. My scale put me at 268 lbs. at the beginning of the year. I gained about 10 lbs. (272-282) during my vacation last month, but I've re-lost 9 of those.
jcollie719: (Jcollie license)
My trip to get one new tire ended up as a trip to get four new tires. The flat tire had a nail in it, along with a small tear on the side. The tread on the other three tires were low enough (with uneven wear) to warrant replacing them.

My Toastmasters group resumes meeting today. This time, we'll meet in a church near Hancock and Boulder. I had signed up as Table Topics Master this week; I came up with some January 1st/New Year-related topics.

Weekly calorie average: 1,810 exactly
Days above 2,000 calories: 2 (2,070 and 2,420)

As much as I love my weekend job, I sometimes feel like I'm an afterthought to the management. I would love to start up my own business, but I don't have a solid business plan or the capital to start one. I tried looking for a business grant, but I don't qualify for the ones I've found.

"This bass line sounds like someone farting."

I guess I'll recycle most of my New Year's resolutions from last year:
1) Find full-time work or start my own business
2) Get health insurance
3) Get weight below 250 lbs. as measured on my home scale (current scale weight=265)
4) Attend Rocky Mountain Fur Con

I've signed up for health insurance through the state's ACA site, and I plan to attend RMFC. My weight has gone up a bit from last year; this morning, my scale measured me at 268 lbs.
jcollie719: (Xmas Vigoda)
Reviewing my New Year's resolutions for this year:

1) Find full-time work
2) Get health insurance
3) Get weight below 250 lbs. as measured on my home scale (current scale weight=265)
4) Attend Rocky Mountain Fur Con
5) Drink more tea, coffee, water and juice, and less soda
6) Relax and/or meditate more often
7) Get a good night's sleep every night

I've accomplished 4 and 6 so far, and I'm getting better about 5. My weight is still bouncing back and forth between 253 and 265. My sleep pattern keeps getting thrown off every once in a while (usually on weekends.)

Happy 2013!

My New Year's dinner with [livejournal.com profile] vrghr was excellent. The dinner included shrimp for the appetizer, pork roast with sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, dumplings and black-eyed peas. We rounded out the evening watching various movies and animated specials. Vargr even gave me a few days worth of leftovers to take home. Many thanks for being a wonderful cook and host!

For New Year's Eve, I went up to Aurora for the "Danewood" party. I went to the wrong address at first, but I called the party and got the right address. The house contained a few Great Danes and one or two smaller dogs, hence the "Danewood" name. One of the Danes and a smaller dog had cuddled up next to me on the sofa for a while. I made the mistake of drinking on a nearly-empty stomach (only having a couple slices of pizza) so I became buzzed after only two drinks. I drank only water after midnight and felt clear-headed again around 1 AM. I stayed until 3:20 just to make sure I was completely sober.

My old job counselor e-mailed me to say she would resume working with me instead of the new counselor, who never returned my calls. She asked me to come to a job fair tomorrow for Service Source. She obviously forgot I already worked for this company for a month or so in 2011, had a horrible time with them and was laid off due to cutbacks at the Army dining hall where I worked. Much of the work also gave me back pain, so I always had to bring pain relievers along with my regular medication.
jcollie719: (lunchiesdogangl)
I'm confident I can accomplish at least two of these New Year's resolutions:

1) Find full-time work
2) Get health insurance
3) Get weight below 250 lbs. as measured on my home scale (current scale weight=265)
4) Attend Rocky Mountain Fur Con
5) Drink more tea, coffee, water and juice, and less soda.

I will make one more attempt to reach my new j0b counselor at Aspen Pointe on Monday. I've left three voice mails for her so far with no response (this was done at least 7-10 days prior to Christmas.)

The next two days will be furrier for me. I'm attending the Danewood New Year's Eve party in Denver on Monday night, then having dinner with local furry [livejournal.com profile] vrghr on Tuesday afternoon.

I did really lousy at keeping my New Year's resolutions this year. I only partially accomplished two of them. The resolutions were:

1. Get a weekday job that actually lasts a long time
---FAIL. I've been rejected for every authentic job where I applied.

2. Get to know local/Colorado furries better (Call, chat and do more things with them)
---PARTIAL SUCCESS. I have met more area furries, chatted with a few and went to more fur meets. I don't know if that counts as "getting to know them better," though, since I never see or hear from them outside of the meets.

3. Lose 30 pounds
---MAJOR FAIL. I'm actually heavier now than I was in January. I managed to lose about 5 pounds, then constant stress over unemployment and finances caused me to ignore my diet. My weight went up to 275, but it's coming back down again.

4. Buy more furniture (dining room set, coffee table, end tables and maybe a loveseat)
---PARTIAL SUCCESS. I got two end tables for last Christmas and my birthday.

5. Buy a new or used partial fursuit.
---FAIL. No money left (after bills are paid) means no suit.

I likely won't make any resolutions for 2013 when the time comes, or I'll just hope to continue the few things that are successful (having a place to live, not being terminally ill, etc.) As I said before, the only time my dreams come true is when I'm asleep.
jcollie719: (Jackass Fish Slap)
My official weight on January 1st was 255 lbs. My goal for this year is to get down to 225-230 lbs. Of course, I will strive to lose even more.
jcollie719: (Lipton Lolly)
I slept in until 10:30 AM today. I'm not sure if I'll be awake or taking a nap when midnight arrives.

I need to renew my driver's license during the coming week. There is an online renewal option, but it takes 30 days to deliver my new license (mine expires in 16 days) and a credit card is required for payment. My credit card only has $2 available right now.

This year has been a roller coaster ride of emotions. I had great times at Furry Fiesta, Rocky Mountain Fur Con and Oklacon, as well as attending my first fur meets. I still need to work on becoming closer friends with people I meet, but I hope to accomplish that in 2012. On the bad side, one job suddenly stopped giving me shifts and another played mind games with me for months before hiring me, then treated me poorly for the month or so that I actually worked for them. Finding a permanent job and making enough to pay my bills/debt and save up for emergencies and vacations will smooth out that roller coaster.

I weighed 254 lbs. (115.2 kg) this morning. If I forget to log my weight on January 1st, I'll use that as my starting point for 2012's weight-loss goal. I lost about 31 lbs. over the course of 2011, falling short of my 40-pound goal. I'll try to lose at least 25 lbs. in 2012.
jcollie719: (Tiger costume)
Since there's just two months left until 2012, I figured I'd think of New Year's resolutions. I tried to limit them this time to things I am most likely to accomplish.

1. Get a weekday job that actually lasts a long time
2. Get to know local/Colorado furries better (Call, chat and do more things with them)
3. Lose 30 pounds
4. Buy more furniture (dining room set, coffee table, end tables and maybe a loveseat)
5. Buy a new or used partial fursuit, whether it matches one of my fursonas or not. I could always create a new one for this suit.
jcollie719: (Hot Air Balloons)
PAY for second shift on Sunday, June 19th: 4.25 hours (1:00-5:15 PM) Add onto next time card.

It's close to the middle of the year, so here's an update on my New Year's resolutions:

---Get a new job: I was hired at Luce Research late last year, but they're unpredictable when scheduling shifts. I haven't been scheduled for the past two months. My Vocational Rehab counselor retired recently, so I hope my new counselor will be more helpful.

---Meet more local/Colorado furries in person: I've attended a few fur meets this year: the AuroraFurs meet at a Village Inn restaurant and the Robins Nest meet at a furry's home.

---Attend 3 furcons: Furry Fiesta is out of the way, and Rocky Mountain Fur Con is coming in August. If I don't find a new weekday job before then, I will most likely have to cross the third con (Oklacon) off my list until next year. That's a shame since Oklacon is probably the second-closest con to me.

---Lose 40 pounds: I forget my exact weight on January 1st, but I've lost somewhere between 15-20 pounds so far this year.

---Make 5 Toastmasters speeches: This doesn't look likely. I've only made one speech this year. The stress about my job hunt has kept me from focusing on writing a speech.

---Resume paying rent after finding a job: I will try to build my account back up a bit before resuming this.

---Find a new hobby/possible side business?: This probably won't happen. I don't have the skills or funding for it.

---Singles cruise or furry cruise
---Get a collie fursuit
Both of these will also have to wait
jcollie719: (Jcollie719)
Snow and icy roads prevented me from driving to Denver for the "Robin's Nest" New Year's Eve party. My attempts to fall asleep after dinner were unsuccessful. I ended up watching a marathon of Mr. Show with Bob and David on IFC. I'm currently filling in for the morning board operator at KRCC.

I sincerely hope I can find a new weekday job within the next month (my first New Year's resolution.) I applied for a few more advertised openings over the past week, including a customer service position at a company called Graybar. It's listed as a Monday-through-Friday job and is located much closer to my home.
