I'm glad the grocery store was open this afternoon. I forgot that the weight printed on cans of beans included the water in the can. I only had 2.5 pounds of actual green beans instead of 4 pounds, so I picked up some more to make my green bean casserole. I could only boil a third of the beans at a time because the only huge pot I have is well past its prime. I put an 8-quart pot on my Christmas list to replace it.

I Googled whether I could boil water in a slow cooker. I can, though it would take at least two hours to get the water to a boil. I only had about 90 minutes to make the casserole before dinner.
