Colorado Public Radio got back to me last week regarding my job application for a full-time classical music host. They said I would be a better fit for their part-time opening and switched my application to that opening. Unfortunately, I got a response today saying CPR will go with someone else.

I think I got another call from last week's complainer. Either that, or both callers live in the same area (Both calls were from the same exchange, but I don't remember the last four digits of the first caller's number.) This time, the caller complained about NPR politicizing the news. Hopefully the robots will be running things next weekend so I don't have to be there to take calls.

I was able to transfer my "Lucky Move" app's data from my old cell phone to my new one. Now I don't have to lose the points/money I've earned so far.

I met with some furries Saturday for a pizza meet. This coincided with "Pi Day" (3/14.) I had a calzone this time, and the group ordered garlic knots to share.

Hiscox?! Yukyukyukyukyuk...

I was able to solve the Weekend Edition Sunday puzzle almost immediately after the segment ended!

A member of my OA group texted the group to say the church where we meet is closed due to coronavirus precautions. One of my singles meetup groups has also cancelled activities for the near future. A St. Patrick's Day meet is still on, so I'll be very careful to not get sick. EDIT (3/16): I decided to cancel my RSVP for the event. Better safe than sorry!

I woke up to 3-4 inches of snow this morning. The snowplows were out, though only about half of the main roads were (partially) plowed. KRCC's news audio started to degrade around 10 AM, so I went outside and shoveled the snow out of the satellite dish.

I did my first KRCC shift with the new weekend schedule earlier today. My Saturday shift has the same shows as before, with some of the new/moved shows airing during the next announcer's shift. My Sunday shift starts the same way with Weekend Edition, then Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me, A Prairie Home Companion, the Thomas Jefferson Hour and the TED Radio Hour. I play Weekend Edition live off the satellite, while the other shows are now fully automated on the station's ENCO computer system. Most of the air breaks are now filled with prerecorded announcements, meaning I don't talk on-air as much. (That could be good or bad, depending on the listener.) The weekend semi-automation more closely resembles my Part 15 home "station" which I run Tuesday through Friday using both podcasts and live shows. I had to insert a few underwriting spots that were on the printed log but not on the computer playlist. Also, the automation system forgot to switch to the top-of-the-hour news feed one time. Other than that, and the engineer scaring the shit out of me when I first arrived, my shift went well.

One of the shows I aired today mentioned a cheese called Gjetost, which the hosts pronounced as "Yay, toast!" Another show mentioned a game show on ITV called "Golden Balls."

The station's membership drive starts in 2-1/2 weeks. I'm hoping the reduction in music shows doesn't severely affect the amount the station raises this time.

This week's episode of Wait Wait...Don't Tell Mementioned a toilet-themed restaurant in Taiwan. The "Modern Toilet" has toilet-shaped seats and serving bowls, poop/vomit-themed food, urinal-shaped drink cups and tables made from bathtubs. This reminded me of the Mr. Show with Bob and Davidepisode "Rudy Will Await Your Foundation," which had a sketch about a fancy restaurant with toilets built into the chairs. (The episode title is one of the lines from that sketch.)

"I had a Rule 34 dream about them one night. It wasn't pretty."

The ENCO system which plays KRCC's shows had an incorrect show segment loaded. The first half of This American Lifewas the correct episode, but the second half was from last week. Refreshing the playlist didn't correct the error. I finally brought up the episode audio on WBEZ's website and played the second half from there.

At least two people mistakenly thought KRCC's open house was today. It's actually next Saturday.

I heard a very brief mention of fursuits this morning on NPR's "Bob Edwards Weekend." Author Margaret Atwood was plugging her book when I heard her say the word "fursuiters." She was talking about them in an advertising sense, though, as people who "wear animal costumes and walk around with placards" (similar to the Chick-Fil-A cow and her "Eat Mor Chikin" sign.) The website for the show is here http://www.bobedwards.info/ftopic955.html&sid=102d75b25eadf7087f1f95760f2ba229 and Atwood's interview is in the second segment. (I don't know if there's a way to fast-forward to Atwood's part.)

I only got about four hours of sleep last night, yet it actually felt like I got more. That's probably because I managed to avoid caffeine for the last few hours of my shift.

Some of the background songs I played during breaks at KRCC:
Jingle Cats - "Young At Heart" & "Secret Agent Man"
Spike Jones - "Cocktails For Two"
Pat Boone - "Love Hurts"
Portsmouth Sinfonia - "William Tell Overture"

The NPR feed here at KRCC went off at 7 a.m. for some reason. It did the same thing last Sunday. I probably violated an FCC rule by doing this, but I used a Web stream from another station to air "Weekend Edition" until our feed came back up.
