1. Singles cruise (yes!)
2. Furry Fiesta and RMFC (yes!)
3. Get a fursuit (yes!)
4. Get (and keep) my weight below 300. (no.)
5. Stick to a schedule for certain duties (taking out the trash, checking the mail, etc.) or just stop putting things off until the last minute. (no.)

It felt very good to finally meet some goals that were financially impossible before. I finally have a collie fursuit, though I still need to arrange for its maker to make an adjustment or two so it fits properly.

This year, I began sessions with a new therapist. I hadn't seen a therapist since my former one retired in 2014. I had a few medical issues, including an infection which caused my lower lip to swell up. I finally asked a doctor about being tested for sleep apnea and now have an APAP machine to help me sleep better.

2017 GOALS
Weight below 280
Second vacation (BLFC or DC singles reunion)

The second vacation goal might not be possible if the singles reunion is the same weekend as KRCC's spring membership drive.

I tried the Burger King Whopperito for lunch today. It was pretty much what I expected: a lower-carb version of the Whopper.

I found a CD with videos from my Halloween 2007 singles cruise. I had uploaded one of them (a cruiser singing "Great Balls Of Fire" at karaoke) to YouTube years ago, but YouTube eventually muted the audio since the karaoke track set off YouTube's copyright system.

My co-workers' band, The Psychedelegates, is playing at Jack Quinn's Irish Pub tonight.

I got home from my vacation in Grenada last night. I felt like I had either a cold or bad allergy when I woke up today, but taking a Zyrtec and drinking lots of water seems to be reducing it.

I just weighed myself and found I gained about 15 pounds during the cruise. I didn't eat a lot of junk food during the cruise since this was a small working ship instead of a large cruise ship with lots of food options. I was hoping I had lost weight since a red shirt which had been a little tight on me fit comfortably during the trip.

A woman from Pueblo going on the same vacation said hello to me at the Colorado Springs airport. Our assigned seats were across the aisle from each other during all three flights. While waiting for the first flight, we saw another passenger with a small dog named Bashful, though it sure didn't seem bashful! I had a breakfast quesadilla during the first layover in Dallas. When the second plane landed in Miami, it had to wait on the tarmac about 30 minutes since a plane with mechanical problems was stuck at the gate our plane was supposed to use. Another gate was found, and my cruise friend and I took a cart to the connecting gate. We landed in Grenada on time, but my friend and I discovered our suitcases were still in Miami.

The cruise group stayed at the Flamboyant Hotel. The hotel itself is spread out with dozens of buildings, and getting from one place to another requires taking flights of steep steps outside. The group met for dinner and drinks at the hotel's Owl Sports Bar.

The rest of the trip... )

I forgot to pack my name necklace for the singles cruise. The cruise director made me a new one. He had to make one with my last name since he didn't have an O to spell John.

If I do a trip like this again, remember to pack laundry soap and a change of clothes in my carry-on.

The streets on many of the islands remind me of San Francisco. Any unemployed mechanics could move to this area and make a good living repairing brakes and transmissions.

Each of the ship's cabins has an en-suite bathroom about the size of a walk-in closet. I could never get hot water through the sink or shower. Also the floor in the rest of the cabin is tile. "People are going to be stepping out of the shower with wet feet on a boat that's rocking. Let's put down slick tile for them. Not just any tile, but dark blue tile that won't reflect any light in the cabin."

The island tours were okay, but being in the back of a truck with occasional breezes is not the same as being in an air-conditioned vehicle.

PSA: If an out-of-shape person asks how far away something is, either give an estimate or say you don't know. An out-of-shape person's idea of "not very far" is a much shorter distance than someone in shape.

I had a slightly bothersome ear infection before and during the trip. Also, my hemorrhoids began bugging me halfway through the trip.

When asking myself if I wanted to do this cruise again, I thought I would only do it if it were a private charter like this trip was. Also, I'd definitely work harder to lose much more weight before then.

I spent a brief moment throwing out the old mail and random junk from part of my kitchen counter. I ordered a refill of my Alprazolam earlier this week, but I forgot to pick it up. I made a note to pick it up on Monday. I ran out of pills this week and need to refill it before my cruise vacation next Friday.

My dad said my water bill went way up over the past month. There were times when my toilet kept flowing, but jiggling the handle fixed it. I double-checked everything tonight, including the spigot on my back porch, but they all appear to be fine and there's no water in the crawl space. I'll see if a plumber can find anything wrong before my vacation.

I found substitutes for both my Saturday and Sunday shifts at KRCC for the weekends I'll be in Grenada. I found some of the e-mails sent by the singles cruise group; they were being sent to my old AOL address.
jcollie719: (On Air light)
Things I need to buy before my cruise: Clip-on sunglasses, Kleenex travel pack(s), Travel laundry soap, snacks (mints/candy), flip-flops
Things I need to do: Get haircut, clip fingernails

On Saturday, KRCC began playing the new (to the station) show "Invisibilia" during the hour before my shift. Just past 1:30, the board operator who precedes me saw that the loaded episode of "Invisibilia" was only 40 minutes long instead of 59. Since there was only a minute or two to make a decision, I took an instrumental album from the jazz rack and had her play it on the air to fill in the time until the top of the hour. During this time, one person called in to say he hated the music. About an hour later, another caller said he loved the music and asked for the artist and album name.

I heard a dog constantly barking outside the studio for an hour or so. I was worried someone had left it in a car (It was 84 degrees outside at the time.) Thankfully, it was outside on a leash under a big shady tree.

Just 16 days until I leave for my cruise vacation! I found work substitutes for my Sunday shifts but not the Saturday shifts. I'll call the part-timers over the next week to see if anyone is available for Saturdays.

Earlier this week, I felt a couple of larger-than-normal lumps in my armpits. I don't know if they're bug bites, an allergic reaction to my deodorant or something more serious. They aren't getting bigger or spreading, but I'll see a doctor if the lumps don't go away within a week or so.

PAY for Saturday, May 28th: 11 hours (9 AM-8 PM)
Sunday, May 29th: 8 hours (5 AM-1 PM)

My upcoming cruise vacation (35 more days) will take me away from work for two weekends, or 20 work hours. The midday announcer asked for a sub this weekend, so I offered. The extra shifts would cover 9 of the 20 hours.

38 days until my cruise!

I went to Sprocket and Grizdog's furry bowling meet Saturday night. Since I didn't arrange to be on a team ahead of time, the organizers picked a lane which needed one or two more players. Three of the others on my lane turned out to be members of the Furry Raiders. Contrary to the drama surrounding the group, they were very friendly to me, though some other furries complained about them being loud and obnoxious.

If this bowling meet continues to grow, I hope the organizers will spread out the furries a bit more. I know cost is a factor, but I'd love to have either three hours of bowling or more lanes reserved next time so only three or four bowlers will be on a lane. With five people per lane, some of the lanes couldn't complete two full games within two hours; my lane ended the second game in the 9th frame. My scores were 91 for the first game and 100 for the incomplete second game.

The Angriest Whopper wasn't the spicy-fest I expected. It was a little hotter than the Angry Whopper (On a scale of 1 to 5, it was about a 2.) I don't know if refrigerating and re-heating it later affected the hotness.

I forgot my password for KRCC's time card system while I was at work. Thankfully, I have it written down at home and was able to submit my hours just now.

One of the activities on my upcoming cruise is a costume party. My kigurumi would be too hot for Grenada in July, but I still have my caveman costume.
jcollie719: (Collie Puppet)
I went to another singles meetup yesterday. It was held at Old Chicago (the same location where I had dinner after last weekend's bowling meet.) This time, I had a cheeseburger with vegetables as a side dish. During the meetup, a member invited me to a Cinco de Mayo dinner celebration tonight at a Mexican restaurant.

I got a schedule of some of the activities during my upcoming singles cruise (56 days away!) Much of the schedule will vary depending upon which ports we visit, but the meals and some activities are at set times. Since I have a follow-up appointment with my eye doctor later this month, I may either get some prescription sunglasses or regular glasses with photo-gray lenses.
jcollie719: (Jcollie719)
This has been a regular Sunday for me. KRCC promised to shorten the current membership drive by a day for every $25,000 raised before the drive began. Sunday was one of the two days "bought back," so I didn't have to do any on-air pitching. Saturday's pitching went well. Sadly, I forgot to bring a dinner with me. Usually, leftover food from lunch is put in the break room fridge for others to take (I was told the Saturday lunch included curry.) The only leftover this time was cake.

Monday marks 66 days until my Grenada cruise! I haven't found my waterproof camera case yet to test it for any leaks. I got the beach towels I ordered in the mail.

I was listening to podcasts through headphones Tuesday afternoon. Because of this, I didn't hear my phone alarm reminding me about a KRCC staff meeting. I signed up for a few phone shifts long ago. I'll see if any need to be filled when I go to work Saturday.

I've been sleeping in more this week. Tonight, I'll take off my heavier blankets and turn down the thermostat a few degrees.

Just 84 days until my singles cruise! I've been looking over past entries with the "cruise planning" tag to see what else I should pack for the trip. On the advice of other cruisers, I'm saving several $1 and $5 bills since many places in Grenada and SVG accept U.S. currency but prefer smaller denominations. One bit of planning I need to do is to test my underwater camera case to make sure it doesn't leak. I haven't used it in years!
jcollie719: (Turtle Farm)
My tax refund (federal and state) will total about $1,100-1,200.

I received word that another member from my singles cruise group died a few days ago. I know I saw him on at least one of the Halloween cruises I took in 2006-2008. No cause of death has been determined yet, but he had been hospitalized recently for exhaustion and dehydration.

I set up a weight loss goal chart for the three months before my next cruise. I set a pace of losing one pound every four days, though I'll work to lose more. This would put me at or below 290 by the beginning of July.
jcollie719: (Collie Wink)
Today marks 100 days until the cruise, and 141 days until RMFC!

Before the cruise, I need to get a new battery for my HP Photosmart R817 camera. I'd hate to have the battery die while I'm on one of the islands. The ship cabins have AC outlets, but I'm sharing a cabin with someone and don't want to constantly hog the outlet(s). I'm both excited and nervous about not having to go by a schedule on this trip.

Tomorrow Thursday, I need to get the haircut I've been putting off for about three weeks.
jcollie719: (Turtle Farm)
I might as well resume this countdown: 106 days until my singles cruise! After finishing my laundry tonight, I'll see how many shirts, shorts, etc. I need to get before the cruise.

Taking a weekend off seems to have temporarily reset my sleep clock. Yesterday and today, I woke up around 8 AM.

I gained seven pounds over Furry Fiesta weekend. Unlike last year, I had more sodas and not enough water. Even though I comfortably fit into the airplanes' First Class seats, the tray tables were in the armrests instead of on the back of the seats; the trays couldn't lay flat due to my gut. I will work hard to get my weight back down before the cruise.
jcollie719: (Collie Wink)
I was able to find work substitutes for next weekend.

Paying for all three of this year's vacations in advance has put a slight strain on my account. It should be able to gradually recover over the next few months. I'll be much more careful with vacation planning next year. I decided to splurge on a cruise later this year because I haven't taken one in 8 years, and this is a much smaller, private cruise (about 50 people) in an area of the Caribbean I haven't been before.
jcollie719: (Craig Ferguson Ooooo)
57 days until Furry Fiesta, and 170 days until my singles cruise!

I finally went to get blood drawn this morning to test my Vitamin D level. I couldn't find an available space in the hospital's parking garage, so I parked in the surface lot next to the garage. I went into the main hospital building to discover the blood lab had moved to a nearby building. After having to fast overnight for the blood test, even crappy microwave food tastes wonderful.
jcollie719: (Default)
91 days until Furry Fiesta, and
204 days until the singles cruise in Grenada!

My puppet family will increase by at least one this month. I found one of the old "blond" ferrets for sale on eBay, which should be shipped this weekend. I sent an Amazon.com Christmas "wish list" to my Dad, including a couple more Folkmanis puppets, a handheld blender and "Weird Al" Yankovic's new book.
jcollie719: (lunchiesdogangl)
1. Get my weight back below 280 lbs.
2. Make at least one Toastmasters speech
3. Attend Furry Fiesta and Rocky Mountain Fur Con
4. Find a second job, side business or franchise
5. Singles cruise or Furry Cruise

So far, I've only accomplished #3. My weight is continuing to seesaw between 305 and 315. I'm still brainstorming ideas for a Toastmasters speech since I have two months to do it.  A second job is still out of reach. I've booked a cruise for next July.

1. Singles cruise
2. Furry Fiesta and RMFC
3. Get a fursuit (currently in progress!)
4. Get (and keep) my weight below 300.
jcollie719: (Turtle Farm)
I have booked two vacations for next year and have tentative plans for two others. I got a message from my singles cruise group about a private cruise in the southern Caribbean next July. This trip (on the 236-foot S/V Mandalay instead of a cruise ship) starts and ends in Grenada, with stops in the nearby Grenadines. I will definitely work on losing weight since the cabins have bunk beds, and there's at least a 70% chance I'll be in the top bunk.

I've already booked everything for Furry Fiesta 2016 and will likely also attend RMFC 2016. I would like to go to Biggest Little Fur Con in May, but I'm not sure if that will be possible.
