I brought my car to an auto body shop today to get an updated estimate for repairing the car's dents and hail damage. The estimate came out to around $6,500. The employee who did the estimate said the repairs would cost more than the car is worth. He recommended just leaving the car as is. I would like to have all the dents taken out since I'll likely be driving it for at least another 5-10 years and would like it to look nicer.
If I can't find a more flight-friendly case for my fursuit (one with a zipper closure instead of the action packer.) I may either drive to Furry Fiesta next year or arrange a ride with someone else. The trip would be about 50% longer than my 2011 trip to Oklacon.
I just saw an article about a proposed "Hyperloop" train which would serve various cities:
One of the planned routes would go from Cheyenne, WY to Houston, TX, with stops including Denver, Colorado Springs and Pueblo. I don't know if this route would stop in Dallas/Fort Worth, but there's another route linking DFW with Houston. This would be a nice system (if I'm still alive when it's completed) for traveling to Texas Furry Fiesta.
Just 20 days until my Washington, DC trip, and 124 days until Rocky Mountain Fur Con!
It felt very good to finally meet some goals that were financially impossible before. I finally have a collie fursuit, though I still need to arrange for its maker to make an adjustment or two so it fits properly.
This year, I began sessions with a new therapist. I hadn't seen a therapist since my former one retired in 2014. I had a few medical issues, including an infection which caused my lower lip to swell up. I finally asked a doctor about being tested for sleep apnea and now have an APAP machine to help me sleep better.
The second vacation goal might not be possible if the singles reunion is the same weekend as KRCC's spring membership drive.
I forgot to check out the food trucks on Friday and Saturday. I went to the SoCal Tacos truck and got a steak burrito. I put on my kigurumi after lunch and went to "Rhubarb and Cosmik Ruin Everything." I got a Double-Double and "animal style" fries from In-N-Out Burger for dinner. After closing ceremonies, I hung out in the hotel bar for a bit. I needed to wake up early on Monday, so I wasn't able to listen to The Rabbit Hole, Radiolawn or Doggy Radio.
I checked out of the hotel around 7 AM. I refilled my rental car's gas tank before returning the car to the airport. Even though my airline seats were in First Class, the flights only offered drinks and light snacks because each flight was under 2.5 hours. I grabbed breakfast at the Dallas airport, then lunch at the Houston airport. My flight landed in Colorado Springs around 4:30, and I made it home around 5:30.
It's amazing how much Furry Fiesta has grown. When I first went in 2010 (The con's second year,) about 780 people attended. This year's final registration total was 2,820. If I'm able to attend in 2017, I will either fly directly to Dallas on American Airlines or drive to Dallas. I had downloaded a few podcasts to my smartphone, but I didn't pack headphones for listening.
I had an apple and cereal for breakfast, then went grocery shopping for soda, water and my "brunch" (chicken salad croissant.) Fox Amoore and Alexander James Adams played for a bit prior to opening ceremonies. I took a nap around 3 PM. Matthew Ebel's concert happened at 6:00, then Ebel held an after-party in his room. Everyone at the party went down to watch the Bandthro rehearsal, followed by the "Foxes and Peppers" concert.
TFF's Super Sponsor lunch was at the Studio Movie Grill in Plano, where the group got to see the movie Zootopia. I ordered the Asian salad with chicken for my lunch. The movie definitely lived up to all of the positive reviews I've seen. I fell asleep around dinnertime and missed the evening panels I wanted to attend. Thankfully, Sunday's schedule is fairly barren before noon, so I shouldn't need a nap.
I forgot to pack two items: a belt and envelopes for leaving housekeeping tips.
After landing in Dallas, it took longer than expected to get my luggage since one of the baggage claims was jammed. I finally got my luggage and a rental car (Toyota Camry.) I got dinner from In-N-Out Burger and got to the hotel just after 9 PM.
My flight out of Colorado Springs was supposed to depart at 11:19 AM. I received a text from United saying the flight was delayed until 12:38, then another text an hour ago saying it was delayed until 1 PM. I'm glad my connecting flight in Denver doesn't leave until 3:35. I got to the airport around 10 AM and had breakfast.
I'm down to a single digit countdown again: 9 days until I leave for Furry Fiesta! I made a list of a handful of things I need to get either before or during the convention. Convention staff released a preliminary schedule and a list of the food trucks visiting the hotel. The weather will be much nicer this year, with rain on Thursday and maybe Friday.
18 days until Furry Fiesta! The fill-in shift I did last Sunday and the extra hours I'll do today will make up for the weekend work I'll miss while at Furry Fiesta. The announcer who does the 9 AM shift came down with a cold and asked if I could fill in for her today. I might miss at least part of the Funday Pawpet Show since I was unable to fall asleep after my Saturday shift.
Gave you many chances to make change
The only thing you changed was love to hate.
Since one of my Toastmasters speeches involves researching a specific topic, I thought about making a speech about writer's block since I seem to have one. I haven't given a regular speech since 2011 mainly due to stress about my finances and inability to find full-time work. Researching writer's block will not only give me a speech subject, but maybe also a cure for my own symptoms.
Twenty-something days until Furry Fiesta! (It's late, sorry.) EDIT: 25.
I got an e-mail from the Furry Fiesta staff saying this year's Super Sponsor lunch will be at a theater showing the new movie Zootopia. There are furry meetups scheduled in Colorado Springs and Denver on the opening weekend, but those are on Saturday when I work.
PAY for Sunday, February 14th: 10 hours (5-9 AM and 1-7 PM.)
(4:58 PM) I was originally supposed to fill in until 5 PM, but the employee called and asked me if I could stay until 7.
The room block for this year's RMFC will open on Sunday. I may get a room with two beds since my fursuit will (hopefully) be finished by then and I could have a handler/friend share the room with me.
Only 34 days until Furry Fiesta!
I finally went to get blood drawn this morning to test my Vitamin D level. I couldn't find an available space in the hospital's parking garage, so I parked in the surface lot next to the garage. I went into the main hospital building to discover the blood lab had moved to a nearby building. After having to fast overnight for the blood test, even crappy microwave food tastes wonderful.
204 days until the singles cruise in Grenada!
My puppet family will increase by at least one this month. I found one of the old "blond" ferrets for sale on eBay, which should be shipped this weekend. I sent an Amazon.com Christmas "wish list" to my Dad, including a couple more Folkmanis puppets, a handheld blender and "Weird Al" Yankovic's new book.
100 days until Furry Fiesta!
129 days until Furry Fiesta!
I made a pot of chicken noodle soup using one of the World Market soup mixes. Later today, I'll get some of the additional ingredients for the other mixes.
160 days until Furry Fiesta 2016!
I was finally able to book a hotel room for next year's Furry Fiesta. I've already registered for the con and booked the flights.
KRCC's after-drive party was held last Friday at a co-worker's house. The host said several people canceled their RSVPs at the last moment, but a dozen or so employees showed up. I brought a homemade black bean dish which got many compliments. Most of the guests brought the leftover beers home with them since there was so much of it. I took home a six-pack of various bottled beers and a slightly-depleted 30-can pack of Pabst.
While putting the Pabst in my fridge, I found a wrapped piece of chocolate Kahlua cake from a couple of weeks ago.
