The dating service I signed up for back in 2006 (which is based in Denver) called to inform me they have opened a satellite office in Colorado Springs. They said they are updating their photo files and needed me to come in to retake my picture.
When I got to the office, the representative explained that the dating service had revised their procedures for matching and contacting potential dates. He tried to get me to pay an additional $1,000 to upgrade my account. I explained to him that I didn't have a full-time job and my credit cards were almost maxed out. The rep even tried to run my credit cards through his machine, but they were declined. I also stated that I felt the Denver office repeatedly bullied me into signing up for their "Platinum" level when I only wanted the less-expensive "Gold" level.
When he asked if I could write a check, I again explained that I didn't have enough money in my account due to my unemployment (almost all of my unemployment pay goes toward paying bills.) In a rare display of generosity, the rep decided not to charge me for the upgrade. After all this, he finally took my picture. I was thankful that I didn't have to pay any more, but I felt like I had a knife to my back throughout the whole meeting.
