Independence Day=Furry Day?

jcollie719I looked through my old LJ entries to see when I expressed interest in the furry fandom. I first mentioned it on July 4, 2007, although I called them "costumes" for a while since I was shy about calling them fursuits in my journal. I know I had come across at least one fursuit site earlier in the year while looking for an animal costume for a Halloween cruise. The site owner's LJ talked about some of the furry conventions he attended in the U.S. and Canada which initially sparked my interest in furry. I began following the friends listed on the fursuit site owner's LJ who I found interesting, then followed some of the friends' friends, etc.
One of my mid-July entries expressed my desire for a collie fursuit. I also remember asking the Fursuit LJ community around this time if I should consider another breed since collies aren't usually known for being fat. They reassured me my weight wouldn't be an issue.
I decided on the fur name Jerzei (the name of the landlord character from the BBC's The Young Ones) while thinking of names containing a J and Z. I originally thought of Jazzy, but I figured there would be at least a few others using that name.
