My toilet began running constantly and failing to flush earlier today. I don't know how this happened, but while I was researching how to fix it, the toilet managed to fix itself.

I just got back from getting a haircut. I thought my hair would be fine for the trip, but I noticed some tangles and bits of frizz this morning.

It would have been that the ballcock (the big float that sits on top of the water) came loose and so the valve wasn't shut off. It'll probably happen again soon so best take a look, it's a very simple design and easy to work out once you're in the cistern.
