jcollie719: (Jackass Cup Test)

Last night's improv performance was fantastic! The festival was held at the Manitou Art Theater, which seats about 85 people (roughly the same as the Bovine Metropolis in Denver.) The lineup was:

• Suburban Stage Munkys (Colorado Springs)
• Dishwater Blondes (Denver; the group featuring one of my improv teachers)
• Laughing Stock Development (Long Beach, CA)
• pH Productions (Chicago)

I haven't had a lot of sleep, so my memory of part of the show is hazy at the moment. I might remember more after a nice rest this afternoon.

The Suburban Stage Munkys did a short form set, including a song about a toboggan (with the other cast members acting out the singer's lyrics,) and a movie review show. Dishwater Blondes did long form, with connecting scenes including a princess hoping to find her prince by kissing a frog, kids caught smoking marijuana and women getting their hair done. The show then took a ten-minute intermission, with the theater offering free beer on the patio.

Laughing Stock Development ("LSD") took the stage next. Their set included a game where two members (who briefly stepped into the hallway while audience suggestions were taken) got whacked with foam bats whenever they did a particular activity. In this case, one got hit whenever he touched his face, and the other was hit when he addressed the first person directly. Another game was called "Sex Is." The group had the audience yell out random nouns, then compared the suggestions to sex (i.e. "Sex is like peanut butter...I prefer chunky," "Sex with my girlfriend is like gardening tools...Lots of Hispanics have handled her.") They also did a Dating Game and the mousetrap game, where two members performed a scene while blindfolded and barefoot on a stage filled with mousetraps.

The final group, pH Productions, did several short form scenes with a "Survivor" twist. The host, a grown-up "Rainbow Brite," had the audience vote off the group members one at a time after each segment. Rainbow Brite also took out her bloody maxi pad at one point and stuck it on the wall (This was obviously the "R"-rated show) and later vomited.

I was originally told the show would run from 9:30-11 p.m. Instead, it ran from 10 p.m.-12:30 a.m. I considered going to Denny's or another restaurant for dinner before heading to KRCC, but I needed to go home to take my medication. I managed to take an hour-long nap at home.
