KRCC's membership drive will likely wrap up this weekend. This is the first drive in a long time where I wasn't constantly stressed out during my Saturday/Sunday shifts. So many positive things have happened in my life since last October, and I made sure to get enough rest and nourishment before each shift. Breakfast for the morning shift usually arrives/is made around 7:30, but I used to feel grumpy when I came to work at 6:00 on an empty stomach. Having a light snack before work alleviated that.

Speaking of so many positive things happening in my life, my 10-year anniversary on LiveJournal will be in a few weeks. Back in May 2005:

* I was still living with my parents since I couldn't afford an apartment.

* I was recovering from an April 2005 auto accident. I had broken my right knee, right ankle and left wrist.

* I worked two jobs: Board operator/announcer at KRCC-FM (which I still do today) and news writer at Metro Networks (2001-2008.)

* I hadn't heard of the "furry fandom" until the following year, but I liked to pretend I was a dog ever since I was a teenager.

* I created the LJ account mainly to comment on a Web comic (Purple Pussy) that shut down a few months later.

Today I live in a condo (though my dad had to buy it for me,) the Subaru Impreza I bought after totaling my previous car is still in great condition, I haven't broken any bones since then, and I'm debt-free. I set up accounts with MySpace, Twitter, Facebook and Fur Affinity. MySpace is the only account I haven't updated recently.

Hard to believe it's been five years already!

On the morning of April 1, 2005, I was headed home from work when I accidentally rear-ended a van. My 1994 Subaru Legacy was totaled, and I broke my right kneecap, ankle and left wrist. The van's occupants were thankfully okay. Only one or two of them reported having neck pain. My insurance company was able to settle all the claims, with the final settlement made on the third anniversary of the crash.

[Error: unknown template qotd] I first heard of LJ when the now-defunct Web comic "Purple Pussy" used its LJ account as a comments board. Since I had started a blog the previous year at another site, I decided to delete that one and open a new blog on LJ (I was recovering from an auto accident at the time.) "Purple Pussy" wound up ending its run a month or two after I joined.

I made my first LJ post after I got my leg cast taken off following my April 2005 car accident. I had started a journal on another site the previous year, but I discontinued it shortly after switching to LJ.

I got some great news a few minutes ago. Someone from my car insurance company called to say all the claims arising from my auto accident exactly three years ago have been settled. Other than the faint sign of the surgery scar on my right knee, my body is pretty much back to normal (as normal as it can get, anyway.)

Ecch, I've fallen back into the pattern of napping in the morning and getting a reduced amount of sleep in the afternoon/evening. As much as I like my job -- especially since I got a raise this year -- the hours make things like dating and attending the Primerica meetings difficult.

I received word that the Denver Metro office has hired a new overnight news writer, meaning I can get back to just doing the Colorado Springs news.

Since I record the Denver news onto DVDs instead of videotapes, I'm thinking about bringing my old DVD player to work so I won't have to keep bringing my laptop (which has a DVD drive, but the sound isn't as great.)

The second half of my Halloween costume arrived in the mail last week. It's a rasta cap with fake dreadlocks. I purchased a tie-dyed T-shirt earlier last month to go with it.

It's getting closer to a couple of big events: The improv group I'm in does its debut show on October 20th, and I get the wires taken out of my knee the following afternoon. I can't wait to get both over with!

My worries about a hurricane hitting the Caribbean during my proposed cruise have been cleared up. According to the NOAA's website, hurricane season in the Atlantic only lasts from June to November. As for the cost issue, I found a three-day singles cruise to the Bahamas in February for just over $900 (cruise and round-trip airfare), although the seven-day trip in January I originally planned to take is only $100 more, and it goes to the Bahamas, Cayman Islands and Cozumel (Mexico.)

I made an appointment for next month to have the wires taken out of my kneecap. Hopefully, I'll be able to bend it more so I can go down stairs normally again.

Yesterday was my last day of physical therapy. I've been walking without my cane for the past 2-1/2 weeks. I still have a little trouble walking down stairs, but I'd say I've regained 85-90% of my mobility in my right leg.

My mother recently had surgery to put some sort of IV system (I forget what it's called) inside her. My dad converted my old walker into a stand and hanger for my mom's IV bags.

I only have one more week of physical training to go. I still have a little trouble bending my right knee. I don't know if I'm not stretching it enough or if the wires in my kneecap are keeping it from bending all the way. Going up the stairs is getting easier, but I still need to take it slow going downstairs.

Well, my first week back at the Metro office went smoothly. I love working with the new staff.

Looking back on my home-working experience, I realize how far I've advanced in terms of my mobility. When I started, I had to wheel myself to the bathroom, then use my walker to hop over to the toilet. I had to sleep on the sofa-bed because I was unable to climb the stairs. I eventually learned how to climb the stairs using the walker so I could sleep in my own bed. Now I'm able to walk and go up and down the stairs with (and sometimes without) the assistance of a cane. If I continue my improvement during physical training, I'll soon be able to ditch the cane altogether!

Just wrapping up my day at "work." As I mentioned previously, I'm currently doing my news writing work from my home computer while my knee and ankle heal. Beginning July 5th, I will resume driving to the office to go to work. I visited the office Friday and found one of my co-workers had quit a few weeks ago. That sucks, but I look forward to working with the new co-worker.
I've basically graduated from using a wheelchair and walker to using a cane to get around. Just one more step toward regaining my mobility. I can hobble for a short distance without the cane, but I don't want to risk breaking the ankle again.

I made a "practice run" today to my weekend job at the local NPR station. I was able to fold my walker and put it in the back seat of my car, then unfold it again once I drove to the station. I was also able to navigate the stairwell since it has railings on both sides. I've contacted the station manager and will resume work this coming Saturday! I hope this means a return to my weekday job isn't far behind.

My doctor has determined my knee and ankle have healed enough to take my cast off. I broke them in a car accident last month, and now I have wires holding my kneecap together. I'm able to walk using a walker, although I use a wheelchair for long distances.
For those wondering about my username, it was from a weird dream I had a few years ago where a dog named Lunchies kills himself because he hates his name, and he becomes a guardian angel for other dogs.
