I couldn't go for a walk today since there's been rain off and on all day. The weekend is supposed to be much sunnier and warmer.

I put together a music set dedicated to Rick Derringer. I learned about his death on Facebook from "Weird Al" Yankovic, whose first few albums were produced by Derringer. I also found another clip featuring George Wendt I had forgotten about. It was from the TV show TV Funhouse and featured Wendt doing a speech about ovarian cancer, but he used a more vulgar term for it.

Dad let me know the IRS accepted my tax return. My refund should be in my account on Thursday. That should give my account some breathing room for several months.

I had a good dinner tonight at an Irish pub. I ordered a Reuben sandwich and a bourbon and coke. Unfortunately, the scheduled trivia night didn't happen because the person who runs it didn't show up.

R.I.P. to radio and song parody legend Bob Rivers. I'll do a set of his songs during the Rabbit Hole this weekend.

My car's headlight was replaced in just under an hour.

I just heard game show host Bob Barker died today. Just like with Betty White, I'm disappointed Bob didn't live to 100, but I'm thankful for the decades of entertainment they gave us.

As you can probably tell from the lack of entries, this has been a really uneventful week.

"Hey, piiiigs! Let's parrrrtyyyy!"

I was a little sad last night because I read that comedian Judy Tenuta died of ovarian cancer. Having her death so close to Coolio's death reminded me that both celebrities had appeared on the 1998 version of "Match Game." On one episode, Coolio gave a multiple card answer à la Brett Somers by saying "My Johnson, my wiener, my third leg."

I have some eggs in my fridge that are just a few days past the sell-by date. I tested four of them to make sure they were still good, then made a Southwestern frittata with tomatoes, onions and bell peppers.

When I fill in next week, I'll be sure to listen through my stream's page on Boomer's site to make sure the show is actually being broadcast. I didn't realize I wasn't actually "on the air" until about 15 minutes into the show. Thankfully, Boomer was able to get me connected after about an hour.

Someone in the Rabbit Hole's IRC chat had asked if I was willing to fill in for Romeo for several weeks. I don't mind it since I've been trying to find a new radio job after being laid off from KRCC last September.

I got Raising Cane's chicken for dinner before the show. They have staff outside taking drive-thru orders to make the line move faster. The only downside is the outdoor staff don't greet you with a poem, such as "Chicken chicken chicken, which combo are you pickin'?" I got the Caniac combo (5 chicken fingers, Texas toast, coleslaw, fries and Cane's sauce) with a lemonade. I also had two small tubs of Meta Sauce left over from Meta Burger (similar to Big Mac sauce but without dairy.)

UPDATE (3:03 PM): I just heard comedian/actor Gilbert Gottfried has died. Rest In Peace.

Happy Birthday to Romeo Rabbit!

My therapist has completed and faxed the forms he needs to send to Vocational Rehab. I picked up a copy of the forms today.

I attempted to make kolaches at home using sausages, cheese and dinner roll dough. I do have a recipe to make kolaches from scratch, but I wanted to see if my "shortcut" method would work. The sausages I used were a bit too heavy, so I'll use lighter sausages next time.

Hearing that O.J. Simpson responded to the Will Smith/Chris Rock incident at the Oscars reminded me of how Norm Macdonald used to make O.J. jokes on Saturday Night Live. I imagined Norm reporting on this and saying "After hearing about the slap, O.J. said 'If that was me, I woulda just stabbed him.'"

139 days until DenFur!

In Heaven, there is no beer, but there is Meat Loaf.

I heard that singer Meat Loaf and comedian/actor Louie Anderson passed away. January's not even done and many of the celebrities I grew up with are dying. :(

Boomer had suggested doing a pre-Rabbit Hole music show on Sunday afternoons. I'll probably wait until late February after Romeo's donation drive ends, or late March after I attend Furry Fiesta. Only 55 days until Furry Fiesta!

I ordered four more APAP masks since I'm about to run out. These will last me until mid-May

When I moved into my condo in late-2007, the cable/phone/internet bundle I originally signed up for included three free months of HBO, Showtime and Starz. One of the comedy specials I got to see during that time was Bob Saget's "That Ain't Right." After years of seeing squeaky-clean Bob on Full House and other network TV shows, it was a hilarious surprise to hear a blue streak flow from Bob's mouth. Rest In Peace.

"I signed up when my bender was over. Fact, that's my screen name: Bender Over."
--Betty White, "Hot In Cleveland"

I think everyone cursed Betty White by talking about her upcoming 100th birthday. I read the news that she passed away today. Rest In Peace to a wonderful actress and animal lover. Thank you for being a friend to us all.

I wonder if DoorDash's app double-checks the times listed on its deliveries, or if it just accepts whatever is input. I had a catering delivery that was listed as "pick up at 5:10, deliver by 5:00." My car isn't a DeLorean, so delivering the food 10 minutes before picking it up is impossible. I just delivered the food about 8-10 minutes after picking it up.

I had to use Wikipedia to look up a famous name printed on my Burger King meal. The "Larissa Machado Keep It Real Meal" has an Impossible Whopper, small fries and small drink. Larissa Machado is the real name of a Brazilian singer named Anitta.
jcollie719: (lunchies dog angel)
I had two catering deliveries the past two days that had excellent pay. I bought a few frozen dinners after today's delivery, including chicken vindaloo and butter chicken.

I read that ZZ Top's bass and keyboard player Dusty Hill died yesterday. The band's guitar tech Elwood Francis will be their new bassist, per Hill's wishes. ZZ Top will be playing at Fiddlers Green in Denver on August 24th, a few days after DenFur. I don't know yet if I'll be able to go, but it would be nice to hear them live.

Another celebrity death this week was TV pitchman Ron Popeil. I was looking through my music to see if "Weird Al" Yankovic had mentioned Popeil in a song and discovered "Mr. Popeil" from the "Weird Al in 3-D" album. It's a style parody of the B-52s. The other song in my computer which mentions Popeil is "Bald Spot" by Guitar Man. ("Please help me Ron Popeil/ I know how Larry King feels.")

Rapper Biz Markie died on Friday. There had been false reports of his death two weeks ago, but this time it's sadly true. Rest In Peace.

One of the room codes for last night's game night was KGJR. In the Discord chat, I typed that it stood for "King Gizzard and the Jizzard Rizzard."

I am broadcasting audio tonight using AM 930 on my "Talking House" transmitter, and listening via my SDR.

jcollie719: (lunchiesdogangl)
My music show this Sunday will start with a tribute set to Dogbomb. In other sets of the show, I added songs related to three celebrities who recently died, as well as an homage to the audio problems I had last week.

Dinner at the Great British Food Company was excellent. If I remember correctly, the manager is/was also the manager of the Golden Bee restaurant at the Broadmoor resort. There were so many dishes I wanted to try, but I settled on the fried cheese curds and curry dip for an appetizer, and the chicken tikka masala for the main dish.

I had hoped to ask the KRCC staff when my new training and work shifts could happen, but I never got an invite to yesterday's online meeting. I really wish the staff would keep me updated since they want to get the station's music digitized by the end of April.

RIP Prince Markie Dee of The Fat Boys. I bought some of the group's albums on cassette as a teenager. More recently, I bought a used copy of the "Disorderlies" soundtrack on CD.

I wanted to make some GrubHub deliveries tonight, but the roads are really bad. I had almost crashed once yesterday, and I don't want to risk that again.

RIP Larry King. Kevin Pollak's Chat Show had a "Larry King Game" segment where guests impersonated King. Some guests did a straightforward King impression, while others had King giving dirty anecdotes, sort of like the classic "Aristocrats" joke.

Back at KEPC in the early-'90s, I didn't think my real name sounded very good for radio, so I went by "Tom Victor" on the air there.

Betty White turned 99 on Sunday. I saw an announcement that a series from 50 years ago, "Betty White's Pet Set" is coming to DVD and digital platforms next month.

Just after I woke up today, I heard that Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek died. I hadn't been watching as much television the past few years due to working more and being online more. I made sure to watch Jeopardy! when Bucktown Tiger was a contestant, and again during the Tournament of Champions. I'm thankful that Alex lived longer than his initial cancer diagnosis predicted and he was able to entertain generations of game show viewers on Jeopardy!, High Rollers, Classic Concentration and other shows.

I had forgotten to make my monthly PayPal Credit payment last week. I scheduled a payment for this Tuesday since I should have enough in my checking account to cover the payment.

I contacted Boomer just now about possibly starting a weekly music show on Monday afternoons. My depression tends to be at its worst on Mondays, so doing a show would help me cheer up by keeping busy.

I was trying to remember the artist and title of a song I had played years ago at KEPC. One of my old airchecks only had Damon Wayans' standup bit about slam dancing at the very end of the track and I forgot to announce what the song was. Earlier today, I searched online using Wayans' dialogue. I first found the standup act it was from (talking about a Fishbone concert,) and one of the comments said it was sampled by Fishbone in their song "Swim."

Speaking of "Name That Tune," I read earlier that game show host Tom Kennedy died last week. Rest In Peace!

"Have the snacks arrived yet? Are they chocolateyyyy?"

It snowed on Monday night. The major roads were fine, but a few of the side streets were snow-packed and a little slick. The rest of the week will have highs in the 50s and no snow until Saturday night or Sunday.

R.I.P. Abe Vigoda (Yes, this time it's real.) The "Christmas Vigoda" avatar I made was from one of his occasional appearances on Late Night With Conan O'Brien.

I had a great time at RMFC! Here's the abridged version of my activities:

FRIDAY: Arrived at the hotel around 11:30 and met the roommates just before noon. Attended the singles meet and greet. Took a couple of walks: one to a nearby cafe for lunch and another to an ATM a few blocks over. Attended the Guest of Honor dinner, but missed the greymuzzle meet since both overlapped. Danced for a little bit.

SATURDAY: Marched in the fursuit parade, which had a shorter route this year. Spent $14 ($17 with tip) on a pancake breakfast. Went with a group to the Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Denver. Missed Casino Night.

SUNDAY: Had a huge lunch since I didn't want to be hungry during Free Can Cook. I missed that panel anyway because my nap lasted longer than expected. Attended closing ceremonies. Karaoke only had a few people when I arrived at the start, so I went to the dance for a while. I returned to karaoke toward the end and sang "Bohemian Rhapsody" with a large group.

I saved more money than expected because one of my roommates bought lunch and snack items to share. I budgeted $20 per night for drinks, but I only had one drink the whole con while at the Hard Rock Cafe. I spent more time relaxing/napping in the hotel room because I couldn't get as much sleep at night.

I know I say this every year, but I really want to be hired at either a full-time job or a part-time weekday-only job (to supplement my KRCC work) or find a successful home business. I figured "be hired" is a more-specific goal than "finding" a job. I find lots of jobs every day, but the ones I apply for haven't hired me.

I heard tonight that Robin Williams died. Rest In Peace to a brilliant comedian and actor. I loved most of his movies, whether they made me laugh, cry or both.
