I got a call today from a local TV station regarding a job opening. They asked me to re-write some police reports in the style of an on-air news story. I hope my news writing skills aren't too rusty.

Another TV station where I applied e-mailed me to say they'll go with someone else.

I never know what to say when something like this happens. I woke up during the night and opened my Twitter and Telegram to check on friends. Someone opened fire at a gay nightclub about a mile from where I live. As of this morning, 5 people have died and 18 others were injured. I'm mad that this happened, but I got even madder when I read that the suspect had been arrested last year for making a threat claiming to have a homemade bomb.

I've never gone to Club Q before, but many of my local friends do go there. I'm hoping they are okay.

I finished up my demo for Indie 102.3 today and sent it in. If I'm considered, I should receive a call in a few weeks to do a pre-screen interview.

Romeo had me on the second half of the Rabbit Hole last night. We talked a bit about Queen Elizabeth II's death and a furry convention being held in a European castle. I would like to make it out to the east coast for a convention someday, and possibly even a European convention.

I was getting tired and feeling alone near the end of my latest show. I briefly considered dumping my planned songs and just playing a bunch of silly songs and comedy bits.

I got tongue-tied trying to say "Megaplex membership" during the furry news segment.

I heard a version of T. Rex's "Cosmic Dancer" played on AM 690 recently which had conversation from a recording session. I wasn't sure if this version was a live recording from a radio station or a studio master featuring outtakes.

"Oh, well that's different... Never mind!"

Boomer sent me an article about a pair of radio stations in southeast Colorado which went off the air due to a weather event. I don't think I've ever tried to tune in KLMR-AM 920 from my home. I tried to tune them in at home and in my car today, then I realized "They're off the air. OF COURSE I can't tune them in!" Also, my car stereo's antenna is broken, so I can't even tune into any local AM station unless I drive near its transmitter site.

Happy Birthday to Romeo Rabbit!

My therapist has completed and faxed the forms he needs to send to Vocational Rehab. I picked up a copy of the forms today.

I attempted to make kolaches at home using sausages, cheese and dinner roll dough. I do have a recipe to make kolaches from scratch, but I wanted to see if my "shortcut" method would work. The sausages I used were a bit too heavy, so I'll use lighter sausages next time.

Hearing that O.J. Simpson responded to the Will Smith/Chris Rock incident at the Oscars reminded me of how Norm Macdonald used to make O.J. jokes on Saturday Night Live. I imagined Norm reporting on this and saying "After hearing about the slap, O.J. said 'If that was me, I woulda just stabbed him.'"

139 days until DenFur!

I just realized I had forgotten to take my medications the past few days. That, coupled with stress over unemployment and the news in general, is why I've been wanting to just stay in bed recently. I made sure to take my medications after getting up today.

"I signed up when my bender was over. Fact, that's my screen name: Bender Over."
--Betty White, "Hot In Cleveland"

I think everyone cursed Betty White by talking about her upcoming 100th birthday. I read the news that she passed away today. Rest In Peace to a wonderful actress and animal lover. Thank you for being a friend to us all.

A staff member from the station I applied at called me today to get more information about my background. He asked me to send more written and audio examples of my news work. I forget where I stored my old news reports from Metro Networks, but I have a photo of a Denver report from September 2008. I'll combine that with a few national stories from that time and record one or two news briefs.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think my car's engine might need a new head gasket. During the past few days, the engine has been hesitating a second or two when I press the gas pedal. The car also shakes a bit when I'm stopped at a light. I made a service appointment with my Subaru dealer for next Tuesday.

The station where I applied for a news anchor position responded and asked me to send a sample of my on-air work. I hope the file I sent sounds good enough for the station.

I found a job listing for a news anchor at a local radio station. I submitted an application this week and am waiting to see if I'm considered.

I made almost $98 from a single catering delivery thanks to a very big tip!

I got a Facebook reminder about a video I shared in April 2009. Although the original video link is dead, I searched YouTube and found it. It was a news/talk host's reaction to the "tea bag" protests around tax day.

It's snowing again. I need to run a few errands before dinner tomorrow, so I hope the roads won't become icy.

I have two themed sets of music planned for Sunday night's show: one based around tea and the other around dance floors.

My therapist messaged me earlier this month saying he was leaving the counseling location at Mount St. Francis. This week, I plan to search for a new therapist. The coronavirus and all the other bad news the past few weeks has me extremely anxious and depressed.

My mood with all of the tragic news this week alone.

I couldn't get a DoorDash Drive order today, so I slept in until around 2:00 PM. I was originally going to do regular deliveries from 4:00-6:30 PM, but I changed that to 6:30-8:30. I will be listening to the Avian Invasion live stream from 5:00-6:00.

I ordered a new delivery bag from DoorDash this morning. I can't find the smaller one I've used for the past two years. I'm guessing I may have left it at a delivery site and forgotten about it. That bag was starting to fall apart anyway.

Back in the early-2000s, I had a job as a news writer for the local office of a national wire service (Metro Networks.) My hours were midnight-6 AM Monday through Friday. I used to jokingly call myself The Italian Vampire since I was mainly awake at night and asleep during the day. Nowadays, the only time I keep those kind of hours is Sunday night/Monday morning to listen to The Rabbit Hole, Radiolawn and Doggy Radio.

I think I got another call from last week's complainer. Either that, or both callers live in the same area (Both calls were from the same exchange, but I don't remember the last four digits of the first caller's number.) This time, the caller complained about NPR politicizing the news. Hopefully the robots will be running things next weekend so I don't have to be there to take calls.

I got a letter over the weekend regarding my health insurance plan for next year. My monthly payment will drop from $431 to $393.52. That rate will be lower than what I paid back in 2017 ($403.)

Listening to a discussion about long-range AM radio stations reminded me of how I used to tune in distant stations in my 20s and 30s. The stations I remember listening to the most were all-news KNX 1070 in Los Angeles and oldies KOMA 1520 in Oklahoma City. I liked KNX for actually reporting news during non-drive-time hours. With KOMA (now talk station KOKC,) I would hear the station after a local daytimer at 1530 signed off for the night. Last night, I tuned into two Chicago stations, news WBBM 780 and talk WLS 890. Colorado Springs had two stations on those frequencies beginning in 2012, but they are off the air as they look for a new tower site.

I called GrubHub today about receiving my payment card. The card should arrive within 14 days.

Some local furries were featured in an article in this week's Colorado Springs Independent. Here is the story link:

I hope I'm able to find a substitute for my KRCC shifts during my upcoming vacation. The person listed as a part-time sub said he wasn't available that weekend. There are other part-time staff members, but I'm unsure which ones would be allowed to fill in for me.

I will soon be able to talk more on the air at KRCC. After the recent schedule change and partial switch to automation, Weekend Edition was the only program with breaks where I could talk. The station engineer said now that the automation system's kinks are mostly ironed out, he would insert 15- or 30-second breaks in the remaining programs so I could give a quick weather report, announce upcoming shows, etc.

Reading about the United passenger who was forcibly removed from a flight due to overbooking was disturbing. Four passengers were removed so four United employees could have their seats, according to news reports. When I began taking singles cruises in 2006, I signed up for Continental Airlines' frequent flyer program since they had the lowest-priced flights at the time. I was moved to the UnitedPlus program when Continental and United merged. I had flown American Airlines to last year's cruise in Grenada because United doesn't fly there. I had a better experience flying with American. Having a hub in Dallas is also a plus for Furry Fiesta. My flights to and from DC this month are on United (bought mostly with miles,) but I will likely use other airlines in the future until United improves.

I still haven't received my federal tax refund. My dad filed the return, so he said he would look into why it hasn't been deposited.

My boss at KRCC tried to contact me during my Toastmasters meeting earlier, looking for additional phone staff for the membership drive's final day.

I just saw an article about a proposed "Hyperloop" train which would serve various cities:
http://www.kktv.com/content/news/Colorado-proposal-among-finalists-for-Hyperloop-system-418587193.html

One of the planned routes would go from Cheyenne, WY to Houston, TX, with stops including Denver, Colorado Springs and Pueblo. I don't know if this route would stop in Dallas/Fort Worth, but there's another route linking DFW with Houston. This would be a nice system (if I'm still alive when it's completed) for traveling to Texas Furry Fiesta.

Just 20 days until my Washington, DC trip, and 124 days until Rocky Mountain Fur Con!
