One of my meetup groups met Wednesday at a downtown bar. This bar has a large patio for people with dogs. One of the group members brought a Shetland sheepdog (a.k.a. a mini collie) with one blue eye and one brown eye.

I'll be accompanying my dad to the Space Force base tomorrow to hopefully pick up my visitors pass.

Avian Invasion is about to start DJing on a Twitch stream. There are a few other DJs lined up afterward.

I bought two pizzas to have this weekend. The store I visited, Molly's Mountain Pies, has a "buy one, get one for half price" deal most weekends. The store also has a dog in its logo!

Calendar titled "Dogs Pooping in Beautiful Places"
https://www.amazon.com/Dogs-Pooping-Beautiful-Places-Calendar/dp/B0CGF88NK3

There's plenty of similar calendars as well. I didn't realize the market for pooping dog calendars was so high!

The light bulb in my bedroom lamp burned out this week. I wouldn't make a big deal out of that normally, but the lamp uses a specific type of bulb instead of the ones most light fixtures use. I ordered a box of bulbs which I hope will actually fit the lamp. The lamp's warning label said to only use an S11 bulb, but that's the type of glass. I don't know if the base of the bulb is the right one, but it looks like the old bulb.

From now on, I'll get any needed injections in my right arm. I got my COVID shot in my left arm, which makes it difficult to sleep on my left side.

Boomer showed the logo of a radio station called WNUB in Vermont, which brands as "Dog River Radio" and has a Golden retriever in the logo. I thought they should have used a Spaniel or a Rottweiler for the logo since their nub tails would go with the WNUB calls.

I won't be able to afford this for a long time, but I was looking up flight costs for a vacation in Japan. I noticed that on some of the flights home from Japan to Colorado, I would arrive hours earlier than my departure because of how the International Date Line works. One flight would depart at 5:30 PM and arrive at 1:00 PM the same day.

Whoops!

I inadvertently got banned from the Pawpet IRC channel this morning. Boomer was talking about the Peteena the poodle doll from the 1960s. I found a picture of the doll's box that described her as a "swinger" and thought it would be funny to share. Unfortunately, the IRC's spambot filter saw the page link I posted and kicked me out. Ricochet said he was also banned for posting the show's link in the topic.

Speaking of Pawpet IRC, one of the chatters who asked me to record the first part of Doggy Radio for them asked me to send the audio files via Telegram instead of Discord. This is actually easier because Telegram has a 2 GB limit for sending files, compared to only 25 MB for Discord. I have to split the file into two or three files and resample them at a lower rate to send on Discord.

After looking through the Funday Pawpets episode list, I found a specific parody song I was looking for: A parody of The Monkees' "I'm a Believer" called "I'm a Retriever." Unfortunately, the artist's name was not listed and it's not coming up when I search the lyrics. There are other parodies with this title, but they're not this specific one. I've tried to Shazam the song, and also looked on YouTube and Dr. Demento's site. No luck. I later thought the song was by Trout Fishing in America, but I don't see it on any of their albums either.

Only 29 days until my singles cruise reunion in "Pizza-Baggu!"

The laptop I regularly use has an HDMI output which I can use with my TV. This has helped me feel less tired since the TV is about 8-10 feet away versus a smaller monitor about 2 feet away. I don't have a close-up light source affecting my long-distance vision.

Seeing Boomer's "Metal Dawg" QSL picture reminded me of an old fursona/fursuit idea. A long time ago, I discovered my Chinese zodiac sign was the metal dog. I imagined having a "Metal Dawg" fursuit, either a golden retriever or Irish setter with an '80s hair band hairstyle.

Just 10 days until Furry Fiesta!

My 2023 collie wall calendar arrived this afternoon.

One business idea my therapist suggested was running a food truck. I have occasionally thought about this idea when a particular furry talks about giving certain dishes a "Tex-Mex" flair. Of course, the cost to start a business like this would be too expensive. In addition to the truck and food expenses, there's also the licensing, insurance, advertising, and hiring a few people for shift work.

I needed to pick up a few art supplies late last night. I had about 90 minutes between that task and seeing "The Bad Guys," so I had dinner at a bar next door to the theater. I got some pumpkin risotto and two lemon drop martinis, then a Mexican chocolate martini for dessert.

The previews had two animated movies which look interesting. "The D.C. League of Superpets" is about the pets belonging to the D.C. superheroes. Another movie called "Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank" is basically a samurai dog movie with the voices of Michael Cera, George Takei and Samuel L. Jackson. Both movies come out in July.

I was the only person in the theater for "The Bad Guys" (It was a 10 PM showing.) I liked the spoofing of heist movies, as well as the storylines involving bad guys being good and vice versa. Not to spoil too much, but it's also bookended by a pair of fart jokes. I definitely recommend this movie.

The Sunday potluck went very well. The bar baked a pizza, and others brought green chile chicken, lasagna, and veggies with hummus. I had a couple of the bar's "Dunkelweizen" beers. The bar owner has a friendly and well-behaved Pomeranian.

"I almost forgot, fellow babies: BOOGERRRR!"

The IRC chatter who asks me to do drawings had a new request last weekend: a color drawing. The chatter linked to a kangaroo drawing, then asked me to add wings and color it blue like the flying kangaroo in "Pinwheel." I've never seen that show and couldn't find any information about it online. I just drew the black-and-white outline for the kangaroo, added wings, then colored it using MS Paint.

The FoxTrot meet is tonight! I usually end up missing this meet in December due to snow-packed and icy roads, but there's no snow in the forecast over the next week.

My 2022 collie calendar arrived in the mail this week.
jcollie719: (Collie Wink)
I don't know if Live365 automatically runs ad breaks or if I have to cue them somehow. I just compiled a few fake ad breaks to play during my upcoming shows.

I'm glad Ricochet and Boomer talked about getting a new dog calendar for next year. It reminded me to get one myself. I ordered one tonight which should arrive by next Saturday.

My nacho chicken pie turned out pretty good. I didn't realize the recipe also had a high-altitude version, so I'll try that the next time I make this dish. A thundershower moved through the city a few hours before Saturday's party, but the skies had cleared by the time the party began. The homeowners have a golden retriever puppy named Willow who was very sweet. The guests brought all types of yummy Mexican food, including a couple who made sopapilla cheesecakes. I found a recipe for that dish online and might make it for the furry pride party next weekend.
jcollie719: (Radio Bumper Stickers)
I searched for and found one of my "KKFM Friday morning sing-along" tapes from 1993. I used to listen to the Mark Brothers morning show in high school and college and especially loved their Friday shows.

Speaking of radio, I had a one-on-one meeting with the head of Colorado Public Radio to update him on how I was doing. I let him know that I haven't been in the studio for over a year, the duties I previously had were discontinued, and that I would be willing to fill any role in Colorado Springs or Denver.

I saw a video of a man on Telegram over the weekend that I mistook for a fursuiter. I initially thought the man in the video was wearing a fluffy white fursuit head. Another view of the person showed he was carrying a Samoyed in a backpack-style baby carrier.
jcollie719: (Christmas Collie)
The desk calendar I got for Christmas is of a comic called "The Argyle Sweater." I've never heard of this comic, but it's similar to "The Far Side." I also have a 2021 wall calendar with collies.

My 2021 resolutions:

1. Weight loss: below 300 lbs.
2. Reduce debt by 15-20% ($27.4k at end of 2020; 15%=$4,110, 20%=$5,480
3. Christmas vacation
4. Regular online music show

I likely won't be attending any in-person furry cons this year due to the coronavirus, so that should help me with the first two goals. Once I resume working at KRCC, I should know when I'd have time to do a music show at home online.
jcollie719: (Weird Al Headbanger)
I let the staff at KRCC know I would visit the station Wednesday afternoon to see where I'll be digitizing music.

I've been hanging out at random times in VR Chat. An instructional video I watched said I need to have played for 10 hours before I could upload a custom avatar. If I don't hear about a friend being in a certain VR world, I usually just let my home world run in the background while I do other things. My current avatar is a Shiba Inu, the closest dog I could find to a collie.

In about 90 minutes, my sweet potato wedges will be done cooking.
jcollie719: (Birthday Collie)
I upgraded my Dreamwidth account Monday night so I could upload more icons. I uploaded a few icons from my old LiveJournal account plus a few new ones. The "birthday collie" today is for my dad's 86th birthday!

I think I've pinpointed why I avoid family gatherings and certain public events. I prefer to attend events where I have a sense of control and security, and I like to feel comfortable with my surroundings.

I brought my car into the shop today for some needed repairs. The shop will replace some of the B's: belts, bulbs, brakes and (wiper) blades. I'll get the car's oil changed tomorrow.
jcollie719: (Collie Lick Sign)
The cartoon on Boomer's site mentioning a "werepug" reminded me of meeting one of my neighbor's pugs. When I let the dog sniff my hand, I was a little weirded out by all the snorting it did. I kept thinking it was about to blow its nose on my hand!

I did a DoorDash catering delivery in Denver this morning, then 6 GrubHub deliveries in Colorado Springs tonight. GrubHub offered a $10 bonus for making at least 5 deliveries from 5-9 PM. The deliveries helped me keep my mind off the election.
jcollie719: (Luigi)
Since I did this on LiveJournal about ten years ago, I am looking through my 2011-present entries on LJ/Dreamwidth for a recap of my 40s. My old memories seem to mirror my current wishes, including wanting to find a higher-paying job, move into a larger house with a garage or start my own radio/TV station.

I only got a few hours of sleep last night because worries about money kept me awake. I saw a furry blog about switching to science and technology jobs, but that doesn't sound like something I could do. I'm not proficient in any programming languages and can barely operate a laptop.

I did a DoorDash catering order in Denver this morning. I delivered a large box of Chipotle food to a pet grooming salon. While driving away, I saw someone had painted a collie on one of their dumpsters! I made a few more small deliveries for another hour. I napped for about an hour after getting home to make up for last night's lack of sleep. I signed up for another catering order tomorrow morning.

On Sunday, I had accidentally burned a bag of popcorn. Tonight I put a new peppermint oil plug-in into my living room's air freshener. It already smells much better in here!
